And it was one of my favorites throughout elementary school. Its called Gadget Racers (Penny Racers in the UK, and Choro Q HG in Japan). Think a really cute version of Gran Turismo (Its GT like intro video is after the jump), all the cars are cartoonized versions of their real life counter parts and even with the fake name you know what they were supposed to be. Everything from S2000's, Hummers, even a Silk Cut Jag made its way into the game. It even had an intro just like the Gran Turismo games. There were also upgrade shops to increase endurance, buy monster truck tires, retractable car wings, Flotation devices, and snow skies. It was fun as hell, was basically built as a pre Gran Turismo.

Some had a large spoiler on the back that held the penny, that you could adjust in several different ways to change the behavior of the car. I wonder if I could still find one in my old car collection.

I thought this game was good, but I liked the subsequent games in the series Roadtrip and ChoroQ, better. After getting frustrated at one of the Gran Turismos or Grand Theft Autos, I would pop one of these into the PS2 to cool down. The Facebook games Car Town and Car Town EX use similar styling on their cars.
